Our ambitions

Amnesty Intenational Sciences Po Menton, created in september 2016, gathers 14 students who have made the choice to fight against ignorance. Reviving Amnesty International on a local basis turned out to be an effective way to lead more concrete actions to sensibilize our environment about human rights but gives us also the possibility to develop our own initiatives and actions. We insist on being concentrated, curious and creative.

Several hours a week, we dedicate ourselves to protecting human rights and help Amnesty International in their activities. To optimize our actions and projects, we decided to divide our board into 3 poles : communication, action and research and event organization. You can find everything you would like to know about us in this website, and don’t forget… join a local group to act collectively.

Lorenzo Lamo

Hello ! My name is Lorenzo Lamo, I am 19 years old, and I am from Miami, USA. Ever since I arrived in Menton, I have been shocked by the fact that such a beautiful city can be just a few kilometers away from a humanitarian crisis. I decided to join Amnesty in order to be an active part of the solution to human rights issues, instead of simply being another tourist in the Côte d'Azur. This year, I am excited to serve as President of our Youth Antenna and hope to continue the impactful work we have done over the years.

Hey, I am Ugne from Lithuania and I am the head of the research pole. My responsibilities include writing articles, reporting the actions of the Amnesty International in Scieces Po campus de Menton and conducting testimonies in the refugee camp in Ventimiglia. Joining Amnesty's team gave me the opportunity to rediscover the beautiful French Riviera and understand the political and social issues of the region. Me and my team are excited to conduct research which is worth spreading awareness and later organize conferences in which experts from the region are able to speak about the topics relevant on our campus !

Hello ! My name is Elena and I am a first year from Italy. As I began my studies in political and social sciences here in Menton, I felt the need to connect with the reality and the consequences that political choices have in practice. In particular, being italian, I felt personally drawn to act on the problematic situation concerning migrants in Ventimiglia. Because of this, I decided to join the Action team of Amnesty, hoping to learn more about human rights and have a beneficial effect on our local community. I am looking forward to this year in Sciences Po with Amnesty !

Hello, I’m Katya! I am originally from India, however I grew up in Singapore, Germany, the UAE and Costa Rica. The stark contrast between the political and social situations of these countries pushed me, especially between Germany and the UAE sparked my interest in politics and economics. I used Amnesty intensively to explore these differences through a research paper about migrant rights. Thus, began my admiration of Amnesty International as an organization. I am honored to be a part of the research team, and hope to make an impact living so close to the focal point of the migrant crisis.

Hey, I’m Isaac David Pinto, 19 years old and a first-year student. Coming from Mexico and having two Cuban parents, has given me a broad perspective of which are the main struggles of migrants and their families. That’s the main reason why I think by studying at Sciences Po Campus de Menton I have a great opportunity of replicating my previous involvement with this type of associations in an area that has been dealing with this problem for the past few years. I decided to join the Research team of this branch of Amnesty International because I think that with this position I will be able to share my thoughts, concerns and ideas with a lot of other people.

Hi, I’m Alice and I am a first year student from Italy. In the past few years, my country was particularly touched by the migration crisis and we directly witnessed its tragic outcomes. This is one of the main reasons that brought me to the campus of Menton. Among the different associations working in the delicate area that is the border with Ventimiglia, the one that resonated the most with my personal values was Amnesty International, where I decided to join the action pole. Through the work that we will carry out in the field, as well as on campus, I hope to have a meaningful role in the improvement of the situation we are living today.
